Katakana Lookalike Quiz
Six katakana get mixed up in pairs: シ and ツ, ソ and ン, ナ and メ. Ten questions: some ask for the kana that says a sound, some for the sound of a kana, and some for the meaning of a short loanword. Every miss comes with the rule that tells the pair apart.
Ten questions on six lookalike katakana
Say the sound, pick the kana, read the word. Four choices each, with the answer after every question and the rule for any you miss. Nothing to sign up for.
The rules the quiz checks
- シ (shi): the long stroke rises to the upper right.
- ツ (tsu): the long stroke falls to the lower left.
- ン (n): the long stroke rises to the upper right.
- ソ (so): the long stroke falls to the lower left.
- ナ (na): the first stroke is a flat bar, left to right.
- メ (me): the first stroke is a diagonal, top right to lower left.
The reasoning behind each rule is on シ vs ツ and ソ vs ン and ナ vs メ.
